The SAA-C03 exam consists of 65 questions (multiple-choice and multiple-response) to be completed in 130 minutes. The exam is available in English, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified Chinese. You can take it at a testing center or online with remote proctoring.

The passing score is 720 out of 1000 points (approximately 72%). AWS uses a scaled scoring model, so the exact number of correct answers needed may vary slightly between exam versions.

The exam costs $150 USD. Practice exams are available for $40 USD. Prices may vary by region and promotional offers.

The certification is valid for 3 years from the date you pass the exam. You'll need to recertify before it expires to maintain your credential.

If you don't pass, you must wait 14 days before retaking the exam. There's no limit to the number of attempts, but you must pay the full exam fee for each attempt. Use your score report to identify weak areas for focused study.

Study time varies based on experience. For those with AWS experience: 1-2 months of focused study. For beginners: 2-3 months with hands-on practice. We recommend at least 40-60 hours of total study time including practice labs and mock exams.

While not strictly required, hands-on experience significantly improves your chances. AWS recommends 1+ year of hands-on experience. Use the AWS Free Tier to practice building solutions and get familiar with the AWS Console.

Quality practice exams closely mirror the real exam in format, difficulty, and topics. Use official AWS practice exams and reputable third-party resources. Focus on understanding explanations, not just memorizing answers.

There are no formal prerequisites. However, AWS recommends having foundational knowledge of AWS services, plus hands-on experience with cloud computing. Understanding of networking, security, and database concepts is helpful.

Security Groups: Stateful, instance-level firewall. Supports allow rules only. Return traffic is automatically allowed.

NACLs: Stateless, subnet-level firewall. Supports both allow and deny rules. Must explicitly allow both inbound and outbound traffic including ephemeral ports.

Multi-AZ: Synchronous replication for high availability. Automatic failover (1-2 min). Standby not accessible for reads. Used for disaster recovery.

Read Replicas: Asynchronous replication for read scaling. Manual promotion required. Replicas serve read traffic. Can be cross-region.

S3: Object storage for files, backups, static websites. Unlimited scalability, pay per GB.

EBS: Block storage attached to single EC2 instance. Boot volumes, databases requiring IOPS.

EFS: Shared file system accessible from multiple EC2 instances. NFS protocol, scales automatically.

The Well-Architected Framework consists of 6 pillars for designing cloud architectures: Operational Excellence, Security, Reliability, Performance Efficiency, Cost Optimization, and Sustainability. The SAA-C03 exam focuses heavily on the middle four pillars.

AWS Responsibility (Security OF the cloud): Physical infrastructure, hardware, networking, facilities.

Customer Responsibility (Security IN the cloud): Data encryption, IAM, network configuration, application security, guest OS patching.

• Read each question carefully - they often contain key requirements
• Eliminate obviously wrong answers first
• Budget ~2 minutes per question (130 min ÷ 65 questions)
• Flag difficult questions and return to them later
• Look for keywords like "most cost-effective," "least operational overhead," "highly available"
• When uncertain, choose managed AWS services over self-managed solutions

• Consistently score 75%+ on practice exams
• Can explain the "why" behind answers, not just memorize them

• Can design solutions considering cost, performance, and security simultaneously

SAA-C03 (launched 2022) replaced SAA-C02. Key differences:
• Updated to reflect new AWS services and features
• More emphasis on serverless and container technologies
• Additional focus on cost optimization and sustainability
• Same exam structure (65 questions, 130 minutes, 720/1000 passing score)

Note: SAA-C02 content is now legacy. All preparation should focus on SAA-C03.
